Frequently Asked Questions
|
Please refer to this page for more information. >> Can I backup multiple computers? Yes. You can install the software on one computer and access other computers files and resources across the network, or in cases where this is not appropriate (laptops for instance), you can install extra copies of the software at a small additional monthly cost. >> Will it affect my monthly data quota? It depends on your specific Internet plan. However the majority of Australian Internet Providers only count downloads in your monthly allowance. Your backup data is treated as 'uploads', thus not affecting your quota. In the event you need to restore a large amount of data, and you do not want to affect your quota, we can arrange a DVD to be delivered subject to the terms in our SLA. >> What if I already have a backup system? Even if you are currently backing up to tape, ZIP, DVD, or other media, the likelyhood is that the process is still not 100% automated, relying on staff to change the media. Additionally, many backup systems are not adequately monitored, and assumed to be backing up correctly, only to find that when a restore is needed, the backups have been failing. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, we recommend integrating an offsite backup plan into any existing backup policy. >> How long will the backup take? It depends on the amount of data you have, and the speed of your Internet connection. The initial backup takes the longest, ranging from a few hours to a few days. For large data we can come onsite and do a portable backup and transfer it directly to our datacentre. After the initial backup, only the changes within files are compressed then transfered (Bit-wise technology). As an example, if you have 10GB of compressed data, including 15 MS Exchange mailboxes and shared data drives, depending on your daily activity, your nightly backup will take less than and hour. Anything and everything! Email, documents, databases, music and photos. Our software is so versatile that if there is something it can't backup, we want to know about it! >> How do I know my backups are working? Each morning you will receive an email containing the details of the previous backup job's status: whether it was successful, still pending or completed with errors and full details are supplied in an easy to read attachment. Additionally our staff monitor all the logs to ensure that everything goes smoothly. In the event we notice consecutive failures, we will contact you, and help reconfigure your backup if required. >> How effective is compression? The compression rate depends on the type of data you are backing up. As a general guide, files are compressed to 25%-50% of their original size. >> Can I create an additional local backup? Simply by ticking an extra setting, your offsite backup data can be stored locally on an external harddisk or network share, in addition to being transfered offsite, providing you, the quickest access to your data in the event of serious machine failure. You can restore directly from the software, to the original or alternate location. Additionally you can login to a secure web portal on any computer and restore data. Depending on the size of data being restored, and the speed of your internet connection, restorations can take a matter of seconds, without the need to contact your network admin or I.T. specialist. |
